RECREATION: This beautiful coastal town has miles of beaches to enjoy, and the Ventura Harbor is home to thousands of Boats; sailboats, power cruisers and a working fishing fleet. Charters are offered for sport fishing, whale watching, scuba trips, kayaking and charter boat rentals. For the landlubbers, there are boutiques, multiple wine and beer tasting spots coffeehouses, restaurants (from gourmet to taco), clubs, bookstores and live music.
Along with visiting the Historic Downtown, State Beach and Pier, popular activities for the area include hiking, fishing, surfing, kite surfing, water skiing, harbor cruises, sunbathing, and moonlight strolls along the beach. With room for much growth, the thriving downtown, harbor hotel convention centers draw international visitors year-round. For Surfing, the breaks outside the harbor and Surfers Point offer excellent long runs. Ventura hosts the annual International Longboard Competition and has produced several world class surfers in recent years.
HISTORY: The City of San Buenaventura (Ventura), incorporated by the California Legislature in 1866 has a rich history, beginning with the Indogenous people who are believed to be related to the Hawaiian Islands. Holographics in caves on local islands indicate first inhabitants were excellent navigators in the sea, a tradition that has passed on to boaters in the area. Along with its rich history, there are also many locations of interest for major motion picture production companies, television, commercials, still photography and student productions. Among some recent films, “Erin Brockovich”, “Castaway”, and “Swordfish” have chosen Ventura as the ideal location for their production.
Multinational corporations… such as Trade Desk, biotech pioneer Amgen and out-door clothier Patagonia call Ventura County home, as do other companies doing business ranging from, agriculture, software development and multi-media production to sea urchin and other seafood exporters.
SAFETY RANKINGS: Identified by the FBI as one of the safest counties in the United States, Ventura County attracts plenty of business and investment capital, but maintains the look and feel of small towns with distinct identities. For instance, Port Hueneme, just south of Channel Islands Harbor, is perhaps best known for being the only deep-water port between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The rapidly growing port is now the fourth busiest in California. The Pacific Coast Highway and 101 are only minutes away and make it easily accessible. Downtown Ventura has also seen a renaissance of late, and is emerging as a charming, upbeat district dotted with graceful palms, outdoor cafes and music clubs featuring from jazz and swing to rock and blues.
