HISTORY: “The historic City of Santa Barbara – was incorporated by the California Legislature in 1850. The city was named Saint Barbara by Spanish navigator Juan Cabrillo and the Santa Barbara Mission was built in 1786. As intercontinental travel became easier, the city was discovered by wealthy Europeans who moved to the area and started developing the area. Along with Mediterranean-style buildings, sandstone walls became a major feature of Santa Barbara architecture when Giovanni Menegon and his family moved from Italy to Santa Barbara in 1910. He and future generations of his family (some of them architects) helped create a wonderful influence in shaping Santa Barbara, creating sustainable design that has continued to influence Santa Barbara architecture since.
The city has a number of exciting locations of interest for major motion picture production companies, television, commercials, still photography and student productions. Historic structures, harbors and marinas, beaches, ocean views, residential and business districts can all be found within the City of Santa Barbara. Many filmmakers have chosen Santa Barbara as the ideal location for their production.
